Fudo Myoo guides sentient beings with a fierce and angry appearance. ``Fudo'' means a strong, unwavering mind and wisdom, and he holds a sword of wisdom in his right hand and a cord of salvation and reproof in his left. His expression of severe anger is an expression of his strong determination to save all sentient beings, and his expression in the standing statue is said to represent him standing up for lost sentient beings. The model is the ``Wooden Fudo Myoo Standing Statue'', an important cultural monument created by Unkei, located in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Its shape follows the basic features summarized in the late Heian period, known as the ``Fudo 19 Kankan'' due to its strength characteristic of Unkei, including curly hair, Tenchi eyes (the right eye is the sky, the left eye is the earth).
