This is a beckoning cat made by traditional craftsman Toko Kakinuma. It is a very cute beckoning cat with a lively expression. It is carefully crafted down to the smallest detail with meticulous workmanship, and you can feel the unique texture of the wood grain.
[Lucky cat] Since ancient times, it has been loved by many Japanese people as an auspicious ornament that brings good luck, attracts many customers, and prosperity in business. A cat with its right paw raised is said to bring good fortune, and a cat with its left paw raised is said to bring people (customers). In Feng Shui, the meaning also varies depending on the color, with gold representing "good fortune," white representing "good fortune," black representing "protection from evil and illness," and red representing "love."
[Traditional craftsman, Toko Kakinuma] A traditional craftsman born in 1948 in Arakawa, Tokyo. Since studying under his father, the first Toko Kakinuma, in 1974, he has devoted himself to making Edo Kimekomi dolls. While learning unique techniques such as mother-of-pearl inlay and colored two-layered Kimekomi dolls and striving to improve his skills, he is always looking at the "present times" and building a new Toko brand with a style of working on creating innovative works.
[Kimekomi] This is so named because thin grooves are carved into the folds of clothing or the borders between pieces of cloth, and the fabric is then "knitted" into these grooves. It originated from Kimekomi dolls, which were created in Kyoto during the Genbun era (1736-1741) about 270 years ago, and when this doll-making technique was brought to Edo, "Edo Kimekomi dolls" were born.
